September 10-30
Join us for 21 days of prayer and fasting as we “lean in” to the promises of God for our church, our city, and our community.
I. PURPOSE
To facilitate 21 days of intentional and strategic corporate prayer and fasting where the church’s leadership and its members seek the Lord for spiritual renewal, clarity of His will, breakthroughs, unity and favor on the church’s mission, special initiatives, and projects.
II. THEME: Kingdom Influence x Impact
We are trusting God to give us greater influence and impact in our city and community both individually and collectively according to Proverbs 11:11 AMPC By the blessing of the influence of the upright and God’s favor [because of them] the city is exalted…
III. DAILY DEVOTIONAL:
In addition to your daily Bible reading, we invite you to read these daily devotionals along with our church family:
- Week I: Read the daily entry from The Lord’s Prayer devotional by Canon J. John
- Week II: Read the daily entry from Start with Prayer by Max Lucado
- Week III: Read the daily from Praying for you Elephant by Adam Stadtmiller
IV. CHOOSE YOUR FAST (Isaiah 58; Daniel 1:8-14; Matthew 6:5-18)
We encourage you to choose a fast that is both meaningful and sacrificial. However, be certain to consider your personal health and dietary limitations. Above all, be led by the promptings of the Holy Spirit as you make your decision. Once you have decided the type of fast you will be doing, commit to it for the duration of the fast.
- A Complete Fast: liquids only. Typically, water with light juices is an option.
- A Selective Fast: Remove certain food items from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.
- A Partial Fast: often referred to as the “Jewish Fast”. This type of fast involves abstaining from all foods for a specified period each day. For example, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. or sunup to sundown. There are no specific restrictions on the types of food you will eat, only the specified time of day that you will eat.
- A Soul Fast: a great option if you do not have much experience fasting from food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting from food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully reintroduce those activities back into your life in healthy doses at the end of the fast.
